Ramsbottom A scored maximum points against Burning Desire to retain top spot in the Premier Division two points ahead of Hilton Tameside who moved up to second place after beating Little Lever A 7-2, and Wharton 8-1. Ramsbottom fielded their usual trio of Mick Moir, Mark Ramsbottom and Andy Jackson. For Tameside Jake Shaw trebled in both matches, Phil Biggs against Little Lever and John Hope against Wharton. From 4-3 down Radcliffe CC recovered to beat St Catherine’s A 5-4, with doubles by Rob Hall and Nigel Hallows plus one win by Mick Dore.
Division One top team St Catherine’s B defeated Little Lever C 5-4 to hold on to top spot two points ahead of Heaton A who scored maximum points at Hilton B. Stuart Wallis won three and Marc Townsend two for St Catherine’s, while Heaton’s Steve Barber, and Paul and Matt Ward were all unbeaten. The Wingates victory at Meadow Bank included three wins by John Bradbury, and Dave Bolton scored three and Craig Bradbury two for Ladybridge A in their 5-4 win over Ramsbottom D. Nomads A recorded a comfortable 8-1 win at bottom team Heaton C. In two earlier matches Ladybridge won 5-4 at Wingates and Little Lever C beat Heaton B 7-2.
Nomads B strengthened their position at the top of Division Two after taking maximum points from Heaton E, and a 7-2 win at Coburg who are third in the table. For Nomads Brett Haslam trebled in both matches and Keith Dale against Heaton and Dave Holden against Coburg Heaton D in second place suffered a heavy 8-1 loss at Grubba Fans but, followed with an 8-1 victory over Hilton C, which included trebles by Bill Fairhurst and John Scowcroft. While Grubba Fans followed with a 9-0 win at Hilton D, which moved them to fifth place in the table. Tukasz Serdivk and Danian Bednarski were unbeaten in both matches and Marek Maraszkiw at Hilton. Phil Noden scored three wins for Meadow Hill who were beaten 6-3 by visitors Ladybridge B, as did Kirit Chauhan for Farnworth TT A who beat Heaton F by the same score. Three win by John Rothwell helped Farnworth SC to their 7-2 victory over St Paul’s Peel, and Mark Martin recorded his usual three wins for Little lever D in their 5-4 win at Hilton E. BEN A won a close match at Heaton E 5-4.
Division Three leaders St Catherine’s D consolidated their position with a 7-2 win at Hilton F which included a treble by Stuart McCaig. Three wins by Jim Eardley helped Hilton G in second place to a 6-3 win at St Catherine’s E. Hilton H beat Walkden Meths 7-2 with three wins by Tony Mason and two apiece by Malcolm Wilcock and Alan Revel. Andrew Riley trebled for Meadow Hill B who won 6-3 at Ladybridge C, as did David Yates for Irlam who lost 5-4 at BEN B.
Top Division Four team Hilton I were beaten 5-4 by visitors Boyzone, while Hilton J in second place only two points behind recorded an 8-1 win at St Catherine’s F. Top ten leader Jez Grimwood was unbeaten for Boyzone, as were John Parker and Minh Le for Hilton J. A treble by Phil Beales proved to be decisive in the Heaton derby when the G team beat the H team 5-4. Three wins each by Matthew Leach, and Nathan Patel gave Farnworth TTC B their 6-3 victory over Lads Club B, and Abdiwali won his three for Brass in their 7-2 win over Hilton K whose Max Maybury won their two sets.
