Of the four outstanding matches cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions two have been played, and two conceded. In a very close match the Coburg trio, Bob Bent, George Mather and Mark Speakman beat fellow second division team BEN A, represented by Rod Hall, John Dodd and Phil Calvert by 14 points. Coburg entertain Farnworth TTC A in round 3. Hilton B from division one won by an even smaller margin, six points, against third division visitors Irlam Steel who received 189 points start. Hilton who fielded Ian Wheeldon, Allan Tomlinson and sub Alan Bradshaw clinched their win on the final set of the night. Matt Hood, David Yates and Stuart Jenkins played for Irlam. Hilton are away to Nomads B in the next round. Heaton F will play Heaton B in round 3, both teams having received a concession.
Warburton Cup Round 3.
In the clash between two of the top division one teams, top team Heaton A, scored a 40 point victory over Nomads A who received seven points start. Nomads held the lead up the sixth set, when the Heaton Trio Paul Ward, Matt Ward and Steve Barber moved ahead to clinch their win. The Nomads team was Dennis Collier, Clive Taylor and Derek Watmough. Premier Division Little Lever B gave second division Hilton C 126 points start but came out on top winning by 36 points. The Little Lever team consisted of Ian Lansdale, Roy Costello and Phil Riley. Hilton fielded Chris Naylor, John Barker and Roger Bertrand Little Lever C from division one, beat second division Heaton E who received 70 points start by 56 points. The Little Lever team was John Hutchinson, Ric Simmons and Paul Talock, against Heaton’s Frank Green, Chris Higson and Steve Woods. Burning Desire have been awarded their match against Hilton I, and four matches remain outstanding.

The draw produced an equal split of four all Premier division matches, and four all division one matches. From division one the Ladybridge A trio of Lee Davenport, Dave Bolton and Craig Bradbury received 21 points start from St Catherin’s B. But they held a lead all through the match to win by 38 points against St Cath’s Stuart Wallis, Kristof Pinter and Paulina Orzechowski. Meadow Bank also on 21 points start, won a very close match with Wingates by six points. The lead changed from one side to the other four times during the match but, Paul Pover, Paul Whyatt and Paul Jackson prevailed for Meadow Bank against John and Alan Bradbury and Atul Sheth for Wingates. Heaton C fielded an under strength team on their visit to Nomads A, and despite receiving 35 points start they suffered a 74 point loss. The Nomads team Dennis Collier, Derek Watmough and Clive Taylor scored more points than Heaton’s Dave Scowcroft, Steve Peet and Mel Brooks in all the sets with the exception of one. Little Lever A scored a 24 points victory over fellow Premier team Tameside. They were represented by Ron Durose, Graham Jeffries and Steve McNicholas, Tameside by Jake Shaw, Phil Biggs and Jeff Craighill. St Catherine’s A, represented by John Hilton, Pavel Orzechowski and Bill Russell received 21 points start from their hosts Wharton. Only John Hilton out scored the three Wharton players Bob Jackson, Barry Elliott and Glen Payne which was just enough to give St Cath’s their 13 point win. Hilton A and Heaton B went into round three on a walk-over, and the Burning Desire Little lever B match remains outstanding.

Nomad B’s John Davis,Brett Haslam and Dave Holden came away from Farnworth TTC A with a 42 points win. The Farnworth team Graham Clayborough and Kirit and Krishna Chauhan received 28 points start. Coburg scored a 29 point win at Hilton C who received 28 points start. The Coburg team was Bob bent, Jim Hewitt and George Mather. Hilton, Roger Bertrand, Chris Naylor and John Barker. St Catherine’s D the run away division three leaders recorded a massive 130 points win over BEN B who only had a 14 points start. St Cath’s fielded their usual team of Stuart McCaig, Ben Dudley and Debbie Wilson while BEN fielded their reserve side of James Bollard, Alan Weall and Mike Audsley. Little Lever D gave visitors Hilton G 21 point start and won by 111 points. Mark Martin Alan Lansdale and Bob Waller played for the winners and Richard Reading James Lawrence and Jean Smart for the losers. Meadow Hill B received 56 points start at Heaton F but were beaten by 99 points. Mick Dunn, Eric Shaw and Dave Bevitt for Heaton and Roy Platt, Jackie Smith and Andy Mather for Meadow Hill. The closest match of the week was the four points win by Ladybridge B over visitors St Paul ’s Peel. The St Paul ’s team on 77 points start consisted of Mick Murray, Rhys McIntyre and Dave Waite, Ladybridge John Birchall, John Cole and Brian Greenhalgh. Heaton D were given a walk over, and one match is outstanding.

Division Four top team Farnworth TTC B played Hilton I from scratch, and recorded a 39 points win. The Farnworth team, Daniel Harris, Nathan Patel and Sam Evans outscored the Hilton trio, Gordon Stone, Les Clough and Malcolm Rose on five of the nine sets in a reasonably close match. St.Catherine’s F, on 35 points start entertained Lads Club A, who ran out winners by 127 points. The St Cath’s team was Lewis Smith, Callum Chambers and David Naylor, Lads Club Craig Duncan, Josh Sandford and Ray Isherwood. Boyzone won at Heaton H by an even bigger margin, 141 points. Heaton only on seven points start fielded Sam Walsh, Rob Bury and Steve Walsh. Boyzone, Jez Grimwood, Mick Barnes and Vinnie Merritt.. Brass beat a two man Lads Club B to move into the semi-final.
