Following his recent success at the Lancashire trials Hilton junior Matthew Fields claimed the under thirteen title at the Burton-On-Trent open. He won the fifth and final game 11-6 against Bedfordshire’s No 1 Alex Meade to clinch the title.
In the Premier Division Radcliffe CC beat Burning Desire 6-3, followed by a 5-4 victory against Hilton A. Lindsey Reynolds was unbeaten for Burning Desire, and four players scored two wins in the Hilton match. Ramsbottom A scored maximum points against Little Lever B to retain their top spot, while Little Lever A move to second on the strength of their 7-2 win over Ramsbottom C. Ron Durose and Graham Jeffries recorded trebles for the winners.
Heaton A and St Catherine’s B share top place in Division One on twenty four points. Heaton beat their B team 8-1, with trebles by Paul and Matt Ward plus two wins by Steve Barber, Barry Dobbins winning the B Team’s set. The St Catherine’s trio, Paul Brandwood, Kristof Pinter and Stuart Wallis were unbeaten in their match against Ladybridge A. Little Lever C won 8-1 at Meadow Bank with trebles by John Hutchinson and Martin Simmons and a double by Chris Sutcliffe, and then lost 6-3 at Nomads A whose Derek Watmough was unbeaten. Wingates won 6-3 at Heaton C with three wins apiece by John and Alan Bradbury.
Division Two leaders Nomads B scored a 7-2 win at Meadow Hill A which included trebles by Brett Haslam and Gareth Palmer. Coberg move to second place, after beating Hilton D 7-2 with three wins by Bob Bent and Jimmy Hewitt, and one by George Mather. The Grubba Fans trio Damian Bednarski, Tukasz Seroivk and Marek Maraszkiewicz opened their account with a 9-0 win at Hilton E. John Dodd trebled for BEN A who lost 5-4 at Ladybridge B, as did Mark Martin for Little lever D who went down 6-3 at Hilton C. Three wins by Alan Crompton and John Scowcroft gave Heaton D a 6-3 win over their F Team. A Paul McCormick treble plus doubles by Frank Green and Steve Woods gave Heaton E their 7-2 victory over Farnworth TTC A.
Division Three top team BEN B were beaten 5-4 by the team in second place St Catherine’s E. Roy Alty was unbeaten for the winners with Paul Spencer and Beth Farnsworth both adding one each, while Allan Hibbert and James Bollard won two apiece for the losers. John Rothwell trebled for Farnworth SC who beat Meadow Hill B 5-4, as did John Lawrence for Hilton G who beat their H team 6-3. St Paul ’s Peel recorded their first win of the season, 5-4 against Irlam. Martin Leach and Rhys McIntyre winning two apiece and Keith Phillips one for the winners, and Matty Hood and David Yates two apiece for the losers.
A Minh treble, and doubles by Andrew Morely and John Parker, gave Division Four top team Hilton J their 7-2 win over Boyzone. Jez Grimwood winning the two sets for Boyzone. Farnworth TT B beat the team in second spot Heaton G 5-4 with three wins by Sam Evans and one apiece by Matthew Leach and Nathan Patel. Colin Roberts and Phil Beales each winning two for Heaton. Lads Club A scored an 8-1 victory over Heaton H with trebles by Craig Duncan and Ashley Burton and a double by Ray Isherwood. Lads Club B won by the same score against Hilton K with three wins by Josh Sandford and Dabby Buleni and two by Chris Ahmed. Hilton I’s 7-2 win over Brass featured three wins by Malcolm Rose and two each by Gordon Stone and Les Clough, Eugene Mutebwa scored the two wins for Brass.
