Special Congratulations
Congratulation to two Bolton league juniors, Hilton’s Matthew Field, and St Catherine’s Bethany Farnworth. They both won their respective under 13 title at the Greater Manchester Schools Championship, and will now represent the county at the National finals in April. Matthew has recently enjoyed considerable success on the tournament circuit, winning the under 13 title at the Blackpool and Grantham tournaments; and runner-up in the under 15’s at Grantham. Premier Division
Only two matches were played in the Premier Division this week. The top team Ramsbottom A, beat St Catherine’s A 7-2 with three wins by Mick Moir, and two each by Mark Ramsbottom and Andy Jackson. John Hilton won the two St Cath’s sets. Dave Pickard and Ron Pennington were unbeaten for Hilton A who beat Little Lever B by the same score. Sub Allan Tomlinson added one, and Ian Lansdale and Phil Riley one each for the losers.
Division One
In Division One St Catherine’s B who are second in the table scored a 9-0 victory over Wingates, with Paul Brandwood, Stuart Wallis and Kristof Pinter their unbeaten players. An Alan Cowley treble, plus two wins by Dave Andrews and one by Allan Tomlinson gave Hilton B a 6-3 win over Ladybridge A, whose Craig Bradbury won two and Dave Bolton one. Heaton B lost to visitors Little Lever C 7-2. John Hutchinson won three and Paul Tatlock and Ric Simmons two apiece for Little Lever, and Barry Dobbins and Paul Mort won one each for Heaton.
Division Two
Grubba Fans are top of Division two following two victories, 8-1 at Heaton E, and 6-3 at Hilton C. The two wins give them a thirteen point advantage over Nomads B in second spot who have two matches in hand. In the Heaton match, Lukasz Serdiuk and Marek Maraszkiewicz trebled, and Damian Bednarski won two, Paul McCormick won the consolation set. At Hilton they only fielded two players, Marek and Grzegorz Greda who were unbeaten. Nomads came away from Heaton D with a 6-3 win which featured two wins each for Brett Haslam, Martin Howarth and Dave Holden. Heaton’s John Scowcroft won two and Alan Crompton one. Hilton C followed with a 6-3 victory over their D team, Chis Naylor recording three wins, Roger Bertrand two and John Barker one, the three D team players all won one each. A Mick Martin treble and a double by Alan Lansdale gave Little Lever D a 5-4 win at Ladybridge B, and Matt and Tim Fields both trebled for Hilton E in their 6-3 win over Heaton F.
Division Three
Top Division Three team St Catherine’s D; won 6-3 at Hilton H with 3 wins each by Ben Dudley and Stuart McCaig. Alan Revell, Malcolm Wilcock and Tony Mason won one each for the losers. The St Paul ’s Peel 6-3 win at Ladybridge C featured three wins by Mick Murray, two by Dave Waite and one by Rhys McIntyre. Trebles by Jim Bollard and Mike Audsley, plus one win by Alan Calvert gave BEN B their 7-2 win victory over Meadow Hill B. Gary Hibbert scored three wins and Barek Young two for Hilton F in their 5-4 win over St Catherine’s E. David Yates trebled for Irlam who lost 5-4 at Walkden Meths, whose Richard Whittlewoth and Neil Unsworth won two and Steve Kelsall one. Hilton G won 5-3 at Farnworth SC where both teams could only field two eligible players.
Division Four
The Farnworth TTC B team, Nathen Patel, Daniel Harris and Katherine Oldfield who top Division Four scored maximum points against Hilton K but, the Hilton junior trio of Charlie Bullough, Sean Anderson and Mathew Fishwick all put in a good performance. Lads Club A ran out 7-2 winners over Boyzone with three wins by Josh Sandford and two apiece by Craig Duncan and Ray Isherwood, Jez Grimwood winning the two consolation sets. Lads Club B won a close match with Heaton G 5-4, Jordan Hodgson and Dabby Buleni won two apiece and Alix Furmade one for the Lads Club. Colin Roberts three and Dave Jones one for Heaton.
