Premier Division
Barry Elliott won the consolation set for Wharton who were beaten 8-1 by visitors Ramsbottom A. The win increased their lead on the top of the table to 26 points. Tameside move up to second place after winning 6-3 at Burning Desire but, Ben Armstrong sprung the surprise on the night when he beat Jake Shaw over four games. John Hope was unbeaten for Tameside. Three wins by John Hilton, and two by Pavel Orzechowski and one by Bill Russell gave St Catherine’s A their 6-3 win over Hilton A. The Hilton team followed with a 5-4 victory over Little Lever A the three wins by Hilton’s Dave Pickard making the difference. From 4-1 down Radcliffe CC recovered to win a close match at Little Lever B 5-4, four players recording two wins in the match.
Division One
Dave Scowcroft scored two wins for Heaton C who lost 7-2 against table toppers Heaton A, Steve Barber trebled for the A team. Second in the table St Catherine’s B, lost 7-2 at Ramsbottom D whose Les Phillipson won three and Tom Ryan and Martin Wyatt two apiece. Stuart Wallis won the two sets for the losers. Dennis Collier and Derek Watmough were unbeaten for Nomads A, who beat Heaton B 7-2, as were Ric Simmons and Paul Tatlock for Little Lever C in their 8-1 victory over Meadow Bank. Meadow Bank followed with a 9-0 defeat at Ladybridge A.
Division Two
Grubba Fans retain top spot after their 6-3 win over Coburg but, only four points separate them from Nomads B in second place who have a match in hand. For Grubba both Damian Bednarski and Marek Marasziewicz trebled. Nomads closed the gap by winning 7-2 against Hilton E and 8-1 against Little Lever D. Brett Haslam trebled in both matches and Dave Holden was unbeaten against Little Lever, junior Matthew Fields won the two consolation sets for Hilton. Three matches ended with a 5-4 result, Farnworth TTC A beat Hilton D, Hilton C beat Ladybridge B, and Heaton D won at BEN A. Tony Eardley trebled for Hilton D, Chris Naylor for Hilton C and John Cartledge for Heaton D. Mark Martin was unbeaten for Little lever D in their 6-3 victory over Meadow Hill A, as were Bob Bent and Jim Hewitt for Coburg who beat Farnworth TTC A 8-1. The 6-3 win by Heaton E against their F team featured four players scoring two wins.
Division Three
Top team St Catherine’s D beat a two man Farnworth SC 7-2, while Hilton G in second spot were beaten 6-3 by visitors BEN B. Mike Audsley trebled for BEN, Phil Heard added two and Alan Calvert one. Adele Spibey scored two and Jean Smart one for Hilton. David Yates trebled for Irlam but his team lost 6-3 to Hilton H, whose Alan Revel, Malcolm Wilcock and George Berry scored two each. Mick Murray was unbeaten for St Paul ’s Peel who were beaten 5-4 by visitors Walkden Meths. Steve Kelsall and Richard Moody both won two for Walkden and Richard Whittleworth one.
Division Four
Lads Club A kept up their challenge for top spot in Division Four with an 8-1 win at Heaton G, leaving them eight points behind top team Farnworth TTC B who have played one match less. Craig Duncan and Ray Isherwood both recorded trebles and Josh Sandford a double, Colin Roberts won the Heaton set. Hilton J one point behind Lads Club with a match in hand won 6-3 at Hilton I with three apiece by Minh Le and Andy Morey, juniors Jordon Brooks , Sean Anderson and Joe Burke won one each for the K team. Brass scored a 7-2 win against Heaton H which included trebles by Abdwali Ali and Eugene Mutebwa, and followed with at 9-0 loss at Boyzone, Heaton H won a close match with Hilton I 5-4 with four players recording two wins.
